The M60 and Stretford | The Unofficial Museum | 20th - 25th May 11-5pm

For the past two years, two local activists have been walking the full extent of the M60 Manchester orbital motorway to document, through photography and sound, the profound ways it shapes the communities around it.

Their latest exhibition brings that journey to Stretford, inviting audiences to experience the motorway not as drivers speeding through, but as pedestrians moving above, below and beside it. The exhibition, running from Monday 20th - Saturday 25th April, will feature a collection of photographs which have been taken whilst walking above, below and beside the M60. These photos capture the connectivity, division, beauty and squalor of the motorway as it constantly shapes and defines Stretford and local residents. The photographs will be accompanied by a curated soundtrack, created from field recordings documented during the journey. 

This exhibition invites the public to explore and rethink the urban spaces they typically pass through without pause, and demonstrates how walking in urban places can be an adventure and a wander through history. Visitors will also be challenged to consider how everyday infrastructure, such as the M60 shapes identity, belonging, exclusion, and access around Stretford.
