Development Progress Update

There has been a lot of progress behind the hoarding this month as we head towards opening the new high street and public square later this year. Significant advancements have been made in facade and roofing works to bring the (soon to be!) retail units to life.

Scaffolding has also been removed to reveal the new frontages and glazing has been installed on multiple units with doors coming next.

Facades near completion

The scaffolding has now been removed from the corner unit at the top of Pinnington Lane, marking the completion of its new brickwork. This prominent space will soon welcome a hospitality venue, complete with outdoor seating that spills into the new public square, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere from day to night.

Meanwhile, window installation is progressing swiftly along King Street, with many retail units now featuring their sleek, floor-to-ceiling glazing. These expansive shopfronts will flood the spaces with natural light, enhancing the refreshed units and offering an inviting shopping experience.

Additionally, the Nationwide shopfront upgrade is now complete, complete with a brand-new cash machine for added convenience. The refreshed new shop is now open for business!

First floor arcade

Works are progressing on the new first floor ‘arcade’ space, which is being created just off King Street and will be accessible via lift or stairs. This light-filled arcade will house service oriented businesses and will be your go-to destination for nail or appointment led services.

A new clock tower for the town centre

Brickwork and blockwork has now been completed on the new clock tower, which has been constructed on the corner of South King Street. This new tower will add height and will act as a centrepiece for the new public square. A clock is a feature of many traditional town squares and has a rich cultural and social significance, often serving as a meeting point and local landmark for the community.

Public realm

Landscaping works are progressing on Pinnington Lane, getting the street ready to welcome the community back into the town centre once again.

Home Bargains

The Home Bargains refurbishment has encountered an unexpected delay. They’re working really hard to get the store open again and they’ll be back, better than ever, by summer 2025.

Nationwide

Nationwide have had a makeover! Following a brief closure for a refurbishment, Nationwide are back open for all of your banking needs throughout the week.

Visit the new store on King Street for all of their in-store services, including bill paying services, mini-statements and to pay in cash and cheques.

Once opened later this year, King Street will be accessible from day to night, providing better connectivity into and through the town centre. The retail team are currently in active discussions with retailers to secure spaces on the new high street, with exciting announcements anticipated in the coming months!
