Multi-storey car park (MSCP) enhancements
The old obstructive external MSCP ramp has been demolished and removed from the site, with a new more accessible and convenient internal ramp taking its place. The new ramp installation is almost complete, with just the final connection to the road level remaining. This tie-in will be completed during the upcoming road resurfacing work.
The car park stair tower also now features a striking sunshine yellow render, transforming it into a beacon for the town centre and enhancing visibility up Chester Road and beyond. This bold colour choice is set to brighten the parking experience and serve as a lively landmark for the area.
A new surface car park has been created in the space uncovered by the removal of the previous MSCP ramp. New planting and lighting have been installed and the car park is now operational and allows convenient access for Aldi shoppers.
The new multi-storey car park will reopen in 2025. In the meantime, ample parking is available in the temporary car park accessible via Chester Road. Just look for the hoarded area between Chester Road and St. Matthew's Church. Enjoy up to 3 hours free parking!
Shopfronts on King Street take shape
Individual retail units on King Street have been created in varying sizes to accommodate a range of operators on the new high street. New shop fronts have been added with characterful red brick piers which distinguish the individual units. The new shop fronts for Home Bargains (facing Pinnington Lane) have also now been installed.
A brand new first-floor ‘arcade’ will be introduced when King Street opens which will be accessible via lift or stairs. This area will be the go-to destination for service-focused businesses, including opticians and beauty salons.
Once opened in 2025, King Street will be accessible from day to night, providing better connectivity into and through the town centre. The retail team is currently in active discussions with retailers to secure spaces on the new high street, with exciting announcements anticipated in the coming months!
